मुंबईने आपल्या पायाभूत सुविधांच्या कहाणीत एक अनोखा प्रयोग जोडला आहे. छत्रपती संभाजी महाराज कोस्टल रोडवरील एका पट्ट्यावर “म्युझिक स्ट्रिप्स” बसवण्यात आल्या आहेत. ठरावीक वेगाने वाहन गेल्यास या पट्ट्यावरून चालताना एक धून ऐकू येते. नरिमन पॉईंटहून वरळीच्या दिशेने जाणाऱ्या वाहनचालकांसाठी उत्तर दिशेच्या लेनमधील हा ५०० मीटरचा पट्टा आता ऑस्कर विजेत्या ‘जय हो’ या गाण्याच्या सुरांनी गुंजतो — स्पीकर्समधून नव्हे, तर थेट रस्त्यावरून. बृहन्मुंबई महानगरपालिका (BMC) ने बुधवारी छत्रपती संभाजी महाराज कोस्टल रोडवरील भारतातील पहिला “म्युझिक रोड” उद्घाटन केला. यावेळी महाराष्ट्राचे मुख्यमंत्री देवेंद्र फडणवीस आणि उपमुख्यमंत्री एकनाथ शिंदे उपस्थित होते आणि त्यांनी स्वतः या पट्ट्यावरून वाहन चालवून हा अनुभव घेतला. रस्त्यावर ठरावीक अंतरावर आणि खोलीत ‘ग्रूव्ह्ज’ (खाचांसारख्या पट्ट्या) तयार करण्यात आल्या आहेत. जेव्हा वाहन ६० ते ८० किमी प्रतितास वेगाने या पट्ट्यांवरून जाते, तेव्हा टायर आणि रस्त्याच्या घर्षणामुळे कंपन निर्माण होतात. या कंपनांमधून ध्वनीलहरी तयार होतात आणि त्या मिळून ‘जय हो’ ही ए. आर. रहमान यांनी संगीतबद्ध केलेली, ‘स्लमडॉग मिलियनेअर’ चित्रपटातील ऑस्कर विजेती धून निर्माण करतात. BMC च्या माहितीनुसार, हा प्रयोग भारतातील पहिला आणि जगातील पाचवा आहे. याआधी हंगेरी, जपान, दक्षिण कोरिया आणि संयुक्त अरब अमिरातीमध्ये असे संगीत वाजणारे रस्ते तयार करण्यात आले आहेत. समृद्धी महामार्गासह इतर महामार्गांवरही असा प्रयोग करण्याचा विचार केला आहे. Mumbai has added an unusual experiment to its infrastructure story. “Music strips” have been installed on a stretch of the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road. When vehicles pass over this section at a specific speed, a tune can be heard. For motorists travelling northbound from Nariman Point towards Worli, this 500-metre stretch now resonates with the notes of the Oscar-winning song ‘Jai Ho’ — not from speakers, but directly from the road itself. On Wednesday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) inaugurated India’s first “Music Road” on the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde were present on the occasion and personally experienced the drive on this stretch. Grooves (shallow ridges) have been created on the road at specific intervals and depths. When a vehicle travels over these grooves at a speed of 60 to 80 km per hour, vibrations are produced due to friction between the tyres and the road surface. These vibrations generate sound waves which combine to create the Oscar-winning tune ‘Jai Ho’, composed by A. R. Rahman for the film Slumdog Millionaire. According to the BMC, this experiment is the first of its kind in India and the fifth in the world. Similar musical roads have earlier been created in Hungary, Japan, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates.
