Ind AS 28 – Investments in Associates and Joint Ventures: Objective: Ind AS 28 prescribes the accounting for investments in associates and joint ventures. The key objective is to define how such investments should be recognized, measured, and disclosed in the financial statements of an investor. Key Concepts: Associate: An entity over which the investor has significant influence, but not control or joint control. Usually presumed when the investor holds 20% or more of the voting power. Joint Venture: A joint arrangement whereby the parties that have joint control of the arrangement have rights to the net assets of the arrangement, rather than rights to its assets and obligations. Accounting Treatment: Investments in associates and joint ventures are accounted for using the Equity Method, unless: The investment is classified as held for sale, or The investor is exempt from preparing consolidated financial statements. Equity Method Summary: 1.Initially recognize the investment at cost. 2.Increase or decrease the carrying amount to recognize the investor's share of profit or loss and other comprehensive income of the investee. 3.Adjust for dividends received from the associate or joint venture. 4.Recognize any impairment losses, if the investment is not recoverable.
