The Wellington Bomber became an iconic aircraft of Wartime. It was designed during the mid-1930s at Brooklands in Weybridge, Surrey. Led by Vickers-Armstrongs' chief designer Rex Pierson; a key feature of the aircraft is its geodetic airframe fuselage structure, which was principally designed by Barnes Wallis. The aircraft flew throughout World War Two and was only retired in 1953. This aircraft became the last wartime aircraft to land at RAF Bolt Head in 1946. Having departed RAF Shawbury in Shropshire May 1st 1946 on a long range navigational exercise only to suffer an engine failure over South Devon, the pilot elected to make a forced landing at RAF Bolt Head Salcombe on one engine, the undercarriage was not locked down and the aircraft collapsed on to the runway, the aircraft was written off and none of the four crew were injured. Having researched this account for some years its interesting to publish the incident on film. Have a look at my Patron page some great offers https://www.patreon.com/gullperchphot...
