SEJA RESPONSÁVEL! PT -- O Morro de Capelas é um antigo vulcão submarino de natureza basáltica, formado em águas pouco profundas. Com o decurso da atividade vulcânica associada, o cone cresceu e uniu-se às altas arribas da costa norte da ilha, formando uma península junto à freguesia de Capelas. O Morro está parcialmente erodido pela ação do mar, apresentando falésias muito inclinadas, diversas golas e grutas litorais. O topo deste vulcão monogenético, ocupado por campos agrícolas e pastos, exibe uma cratera pouco definida. A baía a poente abriga o porto de pesca das Capelas, de importante valor cultural, uma vez que este porto constituiu importante marco na baleação na ilha de São Miguel. EN -- Morro de Capelas is an ancient submarine volcano of basaltic nature, formed in shallow waters. With the course of associated volcanic activity, the cone grew and joined the high cliffs on the north coast of the island, forming a peninsula next to the parish of Capelas. The Morro is partially eroded by the action of the sea, with very steep cliffs, several gorges and coastal caves. The top of this monogenetic volcano, occupied by agricultural fields and pastures, exhibits a poorly defined crater.
