I've seen these used as fire alarms in a local hospital and when one showed up on ebay for considerably less than they go for new, I grabbed it out of curiosity. Initially I believed the gong to be the source of the noise. However, it's just a decorative cover plate. It sounds just like any other chime and has a standard vibro bar underneath the gong cover plate. It's only slightly louder than your average doorbell and runs on 120 volts house current. I'm thinking of selling it on ebay because I was a little disappointed that the gong wasn't the source of the sound and as result I got bored with it eventually since it sounds like most other chimes. If you're doing a DIY game show, you could probably use it to make the sound made whenever someone gets an answer right. With that said, enjoy.
