This tool is for cutting into end grain only. Just a short video (I know the quality isn't great) of the Widemann small cranked hook tool for end-grain cutting / hollowing, the small cranked hook tool is very forgiving to learn with. When cutting the outer radius you need to pull the tool towards you, like pulling a rope as the cutting surface is almost reversed. All of the tools shown have been purchased by myself, I only promote tools and consumables that I enjoy using, this video is my novice perspective of using the tool, I used the tool for around 5 minuets before making this video.
