Tertiary alcohols resist oxidation under normal conditions. We discuss reagents like acidified potassium dichromate and expected colour changes. 2️⃣ Dehydration of Alcohols – Learn how alcohols undergo elimination when heated with concentrated sulfuric acid to form alkenes. This connects alcohol chemistry to unsaturated hydrocarbons. 3️⃣ Substitution Reactions of Alcohols – Alcohols react with hydrogen halides (HCl, HBr) to form halogenoalkanes. Reaction conditions and differences between primary, secondary, and tertiary alcohols are explained clearly. 4️⃣ The Iodoform Test (CHI₃ Test) – This is a test for compounds containing the –CH₃CO– group or alcohols with the –CH₃CH(OH)– structure.
