Katie and Amadeo First Trailer Loading Katie went out in the field to meet Amadeo. He came to greet her, but shied off at her approach. If he left, she followed, if he faced her, she went from his left eye to his right eye, causing him to step his hind quarters over to continue to face her. He slowly started to trust her, particularly after she started to scratch his itchy hide, then he was OK with her scratching him, but not yet ready to be haltered and finally agreed that she could halter him. She started playing with him on line, sending him in a circle to the right and left, asking him to step his hind quarters around, to back to pressure on his halter or a shaken lead line, come forward to pressure on the lead line. Some of this was new to him, but he worked his way through it and started to flow. Then she took him to the trailer. Amadeo has loaded in the trailer innumerable times at liberty, but this was the first time someone asked him to load with pressure on the lead line. She gave him the time he needed to think it through and he got more comfortable with it. The activity in that space is different when you add pressure, but he did very well working his way through it. She took off his halter in the trailer and he was willing to stay in it with her, nibbling on hay. A good first session.
