🌼🖤 Honoring Lives, Bridging Stories 🖤🌼 This Día de los Muertos, we reflect on the lives that have touched our hearts and the stories that continue to shape our world. Little Amal is a 12-foot puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee girl, a global symbol of human rights. Her name means hope in Arabic, and her urgent message to the world is "don't forget about us." From September-November 2023, she journeyed 6,000 miles across the U.S. in one of the largest free public festivals ever created -- Amal Walks Across America. On November 1, 2023 she was welcomed to El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historic Monument, the symbolic and historic birthplace of Los Angeles. She was introduced to the vivid colors and sounds of Día de los Muertos, Day of the Dead, by the Carpa Calavera Ensemble and El Pueblo's community altars. Through her, we saw not only the struggles of displacement but also the shared humanity that connects us all, regardless of borders. Just as Día de los Muertos honors those who came before us, this moment serves as a reminder of the lives, cultures, and stories that deserve to be celebrated and remembered. This wonderful walk through the plaza was a co-production between About...Productions and Community Arts Resources (CARS). Join us as we continue this journey of remembrance, connection, and unity. 🌎💖 Video by Leira Productions Amal's Ofrenda Written and Directed by Theresa Chavez Community Arts Resources - Executive Producer Aaron Paley - President Katie Bergin - Executive Director Tamara O'Connor - Vice President Kora Peterson - Lead Producer Erin Soares - Executive Coordinator About…Productions Theresa Chavez - Producing Artistic Director Sofija Dutcher - Administrative Director Gaby Ostrove - Program Coordinator Dorothy Hoover - Props Designer Mari Riddle - Volunteer Angela Sonner - Event Support CARPA CALAVERA ENSEMBLE Carpa Truck Musicians and Son Jarocho Singers Marlene Beltran Josh Duron Textli Gallegos Stephani Candelaria Arte Flamenco Dance Theatre Clarita Corona - Artistic Director/Dancer Art Jauregui - Managing Director Dancers: Clarita Corona Rossana Alcocer Marisa Aguayo Stephanie Betancourt Anastasia Duevas Camilla Fernandez Assieh La Mora Jenna Rosenberg Bobby de Sofia - Guitarist The Betancourt Family - Volunteers Son Jarocho Band César Castro Rebecca Gomez Crystal Gonzalez Deja Hunter Manuel de Jesus Sandoval Federico Zuñiga Jr. Ajolote Freddie Chavez, Lead Dancer
