Mathematics in the Kitchen: Delta State University Hosts 118th Inaugural Lecture ABRAKA – The atmosphere at Delta State University (DELSU) was electric as the institution hosted its 118th Inaugural Lecture, a session that successfully stripped away the "intimidation factor" of Mathematics and brought it straight to the dinner table. Delivered by the distinguished Professor Ignatius Nkoayeasua Njoseh, a renowned Numerical Analyst, the lecture was titled: “Finding X Amid the Problems in my Kitchen: My Career as a Numerical Analyst.” Professor Njoseh captivated the audience by arguing that Mathematics is not just a classroom subject, but a survival tool used by everyone—including those who have never seen a formal formula. He drew a brilliant parallel between complex numerical analysis and the intuitive wisdom of mothers in the kitchen. He noted that even without formal calculations, mothers solve "kitchen problems" daily, balancing ingredients and heat to achieve the perfect result. "In our everyday life, we are constantly 'finding X' for every situation we face," Prof. Njoseh explained. "Once you solve for X in one scenario, you must be ready to look for it when the next challenge arises." By using food preparation as a metaphor for solving equations, he simplified complex mathematical theories into digestible concepts that resonated with the diverse audience. The Vice-Chancellor of the University lauded Professor Njoseh for his unique ability to simplify a subject often viewed as a "mountain" for the common man. He specifically pointed out that the professor’s orderliness and precision in its administrative roles were a testament to his life as a mathematician. The academic rite reached its peak when the Vice-Chancellor formally decorated Professor Njoseh, marking his official induction into the rank of the university’s inaugural lecturers. The event transitioned from the lecture hall to a vibrant Red Carpet session hosted by Kevwe Etadafe. Guests expressed their admiration for the Professor’s intelligence and charm. Among those interviewed were: The Wife of the lecturer His Daughter: Who shared pride in seeing her father's career celebrated so publicly. Colleagues and Family: Who highlighted his contributions to the field of Numerical Analysis. The day concluded with a lavish rece #delsu ption featuring a "mathematically precise" spread of food and drinks. Guests were treated to beautiful musical performances, ending a day where logic met laughter and complex equations met the simple joy of community. #deltastate #universitylife #inaugurallecture #goviralvideo
