I’m often asked how it’s possible to train 20+ HOURS A WEEK — week after week with consistency — as a runner or triathlete. 0:00 - Today’s topic: how much I train and the four questions this video will try to answer 1:15 - General channel intro 1:38 - A typical training day 2:22 - Is training a matter of having time? 2:50 - Being heroic is required — plus 4 tips to take time to train 4:24 - Careful planning: “To leave at dawn, you must decide the night before” 5:37 - Focus on the training itself; don’t become an organizer of your own organization 6:15 - Is it about physical capacity? Answer: gradual building and load management 8:05 - Stop treating pain like injury 8:40 - Is it about motivation? No — it’s about a sense of obligation 10:00 - Having a deep or profound reason to run 10:30 - Don’t have that drive? Fine — but don’t call me a freak 12:08 - How can you balance it with professional life? 13:50 - Managing a lot of running with relationships is trickier — will it cause your divorce? 16:20 - The only three relationship situations that may work with high-volume training 17:46 - Again, a little heroism is required 18:10 - What do you do to train a lot? What limits you from doing so? 18:35 - Outro: thanks, and have a great day of running It requires planning in advance, and a bit of everyday HEROISM — taking time, making hard choices, and following through even when it’s inconvenient. In this video, I take you through one of my typical days — a day that includes about five hours of physical preparation — and use it to answer four questions runners often ask when they see my heavy training volumes: WHERE DO YOU ACTUALLY FIND THE TIME? IS IT ABOUT HAVING THE PHYSICAL CAPACITY? IS IT REALLY ABOUT MOTIVATION OR DISCIPLINE? HOW DO YOU BALANCE TRAINING WITH JOB, FAMILY, RELATIONSHIPS? I don't give my own recipe, but I instead share with you some reflections and observations that may help you find your own way. You too may be able to train a lot. But, for sure, TIME ISN'T GIVEN, IT'S TAKEN. If you’ve ever wondered how it’s possible or how you could do it— this video is for you. 👉 I’d genuinely like to know: -What feels like your biggest limiting factor right now when it comes to training more — and WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO DO about it?
