For students accustomed to quickly identifying the correct answer in high school, Johns Hopkins's freshman seminar Common Questions Program can be a bit of a shock. Alexandra was one of those students: initially frustrated by open questions without straightforward answers. Yet, over the course of the seminar, she learned to embrace these questions. In this talk, Alexandra walks you through the value of tackling tough questions in -- and out -- of the classroom. Alexandra Wong is an undergraduate student at Johns Hopkins University where she studies public health. Her research focuses on exploring the intersection of public health and neuroscience to inform hearing healthcare policies through joint projects in the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the Bloomberg School of Public Health. She is also a fierce disability advocate who advocates for universal digital accessibility and disability inclusion in educational spaces at the state and federal level. Her work has been recognized by the NIH/NINDS, Cochlear Americas, and the Association for People with Disabilities. Her story of growing up with hearing loss has been featured in international news coverage from the Washington Post, the Johns Hopkins HUB, and the 1 Million Women in STEM campaign. In her free time, she can be found watching figure skating or scouting out local Baltimore bakeries for cream puffs. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
