This beautiful village is not just about scenic views, but about living history that is still preserved by the people today. One of the most fascinating things I encountered was a full log wooden bed, carved from a single tree trunk and used by their forefathers. Amazingly, it is still preserved with great care. This traditional wooden bed is believed to be almost 7/8 generations old, carrying the legacy and craftsmanship of the ancestors. The most powerful part of this visit is the origin story of Phelungre Village. According to the villagers, their ancestors once encountered a man-like group called Khyokriri. They were believed to look like humans, but their entire bodies were covered with long hair. They attached the stems of the saccharum plant in their fingers and were said to live inside hollow trees. Villagers also believe that the Khyokriri possessed supernatural powers. After meeting them, the ancestors realized that the Khyokriri spoke a unique and unknown language. From that encounter, their ancestors learned the language, and it is still spoken in the village today, known as the Phelungre dialect. Phelungre dialect — a true symbol of identity and heritage. Phelungre Village is full of legends, oral histories, and cultural pride. Every corner of this village feels like stepping into a Naga fairytale where tradition, history, and identity are still alive.
