Abuja is the capital city of Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country. Constructed as a purpose built capital on neutral ground, it’s a thriving city just 33 years old. We’ve seen its monumental core, the corridors of power, the glitzy streets and some of the high life, but there is for sure another side. It’s success has seen it become one of Africa’s fastest growing cities, with Abuja sprawling to accommodate all the new arrivals. Some are seeking economic opportunity, others are fleeing insecurity further north, but Abuja is growing regardless. In Part 2, we’re heading out to one of the city’s western suburbs to see a very different side to the Centre of Unity. Editor Jude’s brother, Mr Godwin, has kindly offered me to come and stay with him, to see a different side to the city. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
