It’s a silly question because there’s a way that you can answer without divulging anything incriminating in your answer. For some of you, your true weakness is that you can’t get out of bed in time to get to an early class. This isn’t a good answer, obviously, although it’s the truth. So what are you going to say? Most people are not comfortable with public speaking and always want to become better at it. For others, they are not as analytical as they would like to be, or as comfortable working with numbers. Those are valid answers as long as the job does NOT require it. You should ALWAYS keep a copy of the job description with you, so you know that you’re not saying the wrong thing in an interview. You will completely blow the job interview if you admit to a weakness that is a critical part of the job. In some cases, it’s a good thing because you don’t want to take a job you’re not qualified for, but in other cases, it’s only a minor weakness, and you know you would be able to do the job. You can admit to a weakness, like not being as organized as you would like, but talk about how you have a plan to combat it every day or week. Talk about how you learned early in your college career, and are working to become better at it. You set aside time every week to organize your files, and you are always making a conscious effort to keep papers together. You’ve even come in over the weekends or evenings on your own time to counteract that weakness. Everyone has a greatest weakness. The person you are interviewing with has a greatest weakness. But it’s all about your recovery and how you counteract that weakness.
