We need to raise £300k in the next 5 months to start the build of our work skills centre. We want to provide all young people with Special needs and disabilities the opportunity to have work experience and vocational training. Last year in the UK, only 7% of adults with learning disabilities were in paid employment. In 2011, the employment rate of disabled people was 48.8 per cent, compared with 77.5 per cent of non-disabled people. Disabled people are around twice as likely not to hold any qualifications compared to non-disabled people, and around half as likely to hold a degree-level qualification. With the benefit of training and opportunity, we can empower the next generation to maximise their potential. Our expert support and training will offer the kind of qualifications, skills and confidence that every young person needs at the start of their working life -- and that students with special needs deserve as much as anyone. We need to complete our fundraising to deliver a bright, inspirational centre, a café and retail space selling local produce, and an adapted and accessible teaching area. The Work Skills Centre will also provide a much-needed community hub, offering meeting space for our partner projects, internet access and community services.
