WAKE-UP CALL - The Alarm Romans 13:11-14 When was the last time you asked yourself, “Am I ready today for Christ’s return?” “Augustine, why do you run? It is only I?" Running even faster, he looked back over his shoulder and replied, "I run, because it is not I." Every day, we have less exposure to traditional moral teaching and less accountability for our bad behavior. And that sums up society today-- diminishing accountability. These things apply only to Christians. Nobody else understands the times, how life in this world is organized apart from God, or has a clear view of the future. Jesus didn’t tell us about his second coming to make us anxious and nervous The only person who's waited 2,000 years for the coming of Jesus is Jesus. We’ve only waited as long as we’ve been alive. Jonathan Edwards meditated on heaven for 20 minutes a day so that he could set his mind on its reality. Jesus talked about his resurrection and second coming as casually as we should ours. Romans 13:11–14 11 And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. 12 The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. 14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh. God desires the world to look to us for change, not the other way around The final age of sinlessness and salvation, while not yet here in full force, has already been introduced into history through the work of Christ. This power is not a magical potion that automatically makes us holy. It is both a gift and a calling. God gives it, but we have to accept it and give it priority. Fling off sin as excrement because of its destruction, stench, and the pain it causes. Don’t walk where there are potholes. It's hard to think pure thoughts if all you consume is filth We don’t ask ourselves if we can do this, but should we do this This world is something that's got to be overcome. It's set against us. We are fighting the world, the flesh, the devil. It doesn’t move us; we see right through it. We need to recognize both what God is doing and what he plans to do, and then live accordingly.
