Michelangelo was a fan and, in the famous Divina Comedie, Dante condemned a Pope in purgatory for indulging in too much Vernaccia di San Gimignano and eels. Fast forward to the XX century when a new level of excellence is being achieved with the launch of this very label by Giovanni Panizzi, in 1989. Vernaccia di San Gimignano is a surprising grape from a surprising small area. The city of San Gimingnano, dubbed as the medieval Manhattan, is located right between Siena and Firenze, in the heart of Tuscany. The hills surrounding the city are covered in tuff and sandy soils, particularly adapted for quality white wine production based on Vernaccia local grape thriving so famously for 800 years and with such a strong identity that it was in fact the first one to be recognized as a DOC, controlled origin denomination in 1966. 2020 is vineyard blend of Vernaccia di San Gimignano originating in 4 distinct vineyards posed at various altitudes and expositions. The grapes are manually harvested, refrigerated over night and softly whole cluster pressed. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and undergoes maturation on the lees for 4 months. Notes of yellow peaches, green apple and lot of lemon blossoms. Medium body, round and enveloping, with bright floral notes and lively and persistent palate. A nervure of saltiness marks the palate, adding length and depth. A wine that easily pairs with fish fares and your summer.
