In this video we visit Ringwood East, a station on the Lilydale Line in Melbourne's eastern suburbs. Ringwood East is the first station to be solely located on the Lilydale Line after the line splits from the Belgrave Line at Ringwood. Here we see some Metro Trains Melbourne X'trapolis 100 EMU's arrive and depart the station, filmed from various vantage points, including on the platforms and around the station from the car parks and pedestrian crossings. Afterwards we then head to the nearby Dublin Road level crossing where we see some more X'trapolis 100 trains passing through. I was quite surprised of the number of good vantage points for filming trains around the station and level crossing. Dublin Road has to be one of my favourite crossings to film at as you can get relatively unobstructed shots of trains at the level crossing (thanks for the traffic light sequencing preventing cars from waiting at the boom gates), but also approaching the crossing in the distance as there's little to no fencing or other trackside equipment in the area. Both the station and level crossing are notable for featuring mini pedestrian boom gates; one of the few locations in Melbourne to have them. Overall I say that Ringwood East is one of the most underrated places for filming Metro Trains... even if you're only going to get X'trapolis' the entire time. Ringwood East station opened on the 18th May 1925 as an infill station on the line with a single track. The current station building was provided in 1975, while the station was converted into an island platform in 1984 when the line from Ringwood to Croydon was duplicated. The station itself hasn't weathered greatly over the years and is in definite need of some TLC. The station has only basic amenities and is in relatively shabby condition (even by Melbourne standards). As you can see in the video, even the yellow line on the platform has completely faded away. None of this really matters... because Ringwood East is about to be completely rebuilt! The Dublin Road level crossing is on the list for grade separation, which will see the rail line lowered into a trench and a new Ringwood East station built. Major construction is currently underway and is set to be completed by 2025. Along with the grade separations at the Coolstore Road level crossing in Croydon, and the Melba Avenue/Cave Hill Road level crossing in Lilydale, the Lilydale Line will be completely level crossing free at the conclusion of the project. This video was filmed just days before construction work on the grade separation began. Date: February 2023. Subscribe to ThebusofdoomFSX: https://www.youtube.com/user/Thebusof...
