Kanpur ring road aims to cut congestion, set for completion by 2027

Work is underway on a major ring road project in Kanpur, aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity for the city and surrounding districts. The 93-kilometre-long, six-lane ring road is being developed with multiple bridges, underpasses and railway overbridges, and will include a 1.5-kilometre dedicated link road to Chakeri Airport. Officials of the National Highways Authority of India said the project has been divided into five packages, with construction currently underway across all stretches. On average, around 25 percent of the work has been completed, with some packages nearing 50 percent progress. The project, estimated to cost ₹5,800 crore, will feature 13 toll plazas, nine railway overbridges, and six major bridges once completed. Authorities said the ring road is expected to significantly reduce congestion within Kanpur city by diverting through-traffic and improving regional mobility.
