We hope you'll join us from July 30 - August 2 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Pittsburgh - Cranberry for PulpFest 2026. We'll be celebrating the centennial of AMAZING STORIES, the first specialized science fiction magazine. Debuting with its April 1926, AMAZING STORIES was published by Hugo Gernsback, often called the "Father of Science Fiction." What he was actually publishing was something that he called "Scientifiction." It wasn't until a few years after that first issue appeared that the genre began to be called science fiction. Gernsback lost control of AMAZING STORIES in 1929, but the magazine continued under a new publisher. In the following film, you'll see covers from this period of the pulp magazine's long life, featuring the artwork of Leo Morey. A former engineer, Morey began selling freelance story illustrations and cover paintings to AMAZING and ASTOUNDING STORIES during the 1930s. Although he became renowned for his science fiction art, he also painted covers for other pulp genres. Morey painted western, mystery, horror, and adventure covers, as well as plenty of science fiction. He later worked in the comic book industry and for men's adventure magazines and science fiction digests. Our music is "Overature," from STAR TREK VI, composed by Cliff Eidelman.
