An Amazing Close Encounter With The Wild Elephants at Jabulani

Cheeky elephant bull throws sand at Adine! Adine heads off on a safari in the reserve and comes across one of the wild herds of elephants drinking at the dam. We have three wild herds in the reserve of about 50-60 elephants in total and we try to stay on top of identifying them so that we can watch them grow and develop. It is always a treat to see these magnificent mammals enjoying themselves and interacting with one another and this day was no exception! This large herd comprises a number of nursing cows and young calves, making for many sweet and curious moments in this clip. Around halfway through, you’ll notice a young elephant with what seems like a growth of sorts under her stomach. Adine says this is likely a navel hernia and that it has not caused the elephant any concern over the years. The herd was generally quite at ease with Adine’s presence, but one young bull did get a little full of himself – as you’ll see towards the end of the video!
