LMS Moguls in the spotlight | SVR 'Winter Steam Gala' 6th Jan 2024

A new year and a new edition to the Severn Valley Railways Gala programme, as they introduced their' Winter Steam Gala'. Wintery weather always makes for some great scenes, particularly at the SVR, but things were made interesting with the River Severn being rather flooded from the storms during the week before. Running a nicely intense timetable, the line residents put on a good show with the LMS 2-6-0 Moguls being in the spotlight. Stanier 5MT Mogul 2968 made it's first Gala appearance after it's recent overhaul. It will certainly be a welcomed edition to the fleet, as the Gala saw the farewell of fellow Mogul Ivatt 4MT 43106, which worked the last trains of it's current boiler ticket. Alongside the fan favourite LMS Moguls were the rest of the lines fleet. Particular highlights included Pannier Tank 7714 on a classic GWR local, Bulleid Light Pacific 21C127 'Taw Valley' also entering it's last few weeks of service and the lines flagship 7812 'Erlestoke Manor' returning after spending time away at the West Somerset Railways. 0:00 75069 1:08 7812 'Erlestoke Manor' 3:18 7714 6:20 43106 7:58 21C127 'Taw Valley' 9:08 2968 It's been a bit of a yearly tradition since moving to the area for me visiting the SVR during their New Years running, so the Winter Gala was always on the cards when they announced it.
