Day four, we leave Rabat passing some of the sights that we saw yesterday. We head for the ancient Roman settlement of Volubilis. It is very hot when we tour the site with a local guide. After this we go to nearby Meknes passing the old Haroune Aquaduct, then we pass through Bab El Khemis into the centre of the city. First we enter the beautiful Mausoleum of Moulay Isma'il with incredibly intricate ceramic decorated features. Next we walk through the souq admiring a whole variety of things for sale. This was very colourful and full of sounds of many trades being practised. We then continue on to Fez to get to our hotel for the next two nights, Hotel Les Mérindes. The view from our hotel terrace is amazing looking over the Medina. The next morning we get to see first the Royal Palace of Fez in the Medina (old town), followed by a visit to a ceramics factory. Then we have the adventure of walking through the Medina Souq. Lots of food was on display including brightly coloured fruits, vegetables and meats then a wide variety of local produce. There was ceramic ware, wools and linens, metal trinkets, knives, plates, cups, vases and more. The locals were very happy in their work with many contagious smiles. In the heart of the Medina, we are surprised to find an amazing very old building called Funduq al-Najjariyyin. What visit would be complete without the obligatory carpet sale! Next we see and smell the famous Chouara Tannery. After that we were ready for some chilling back at the hotel. The next day we depart Fez for the 250 miles drive to Arfoud. We passed some amazing scenerey as we went through the Middle Atlas region following dried up river beds, dams and flowing rivers. When we arrive at our hotel in Arfoud we get settled in before having a 4 x 4 excursion into the nearby sands. This was recorded between 17th and 19th September 2025.
