2025 Pre-Christmas in Bratislava

A lovely four day break to visit Bratislava to see, amongst other things, the Christmas markets. After Cologne last year, it was quite a bit smaller but quaint with very friendly locals. We stayed about 10-15 minutes walk from the Old Town which was central enough to be convenient for all the attractions. We visited the castle that overlooks the River Danube and meandered around the two Christmas markets. The markets are all about food and drink rather than elsewhere that cover a great variety of other things. The main bridge over the River Danube is The SNP Bridge (Bridge of the Slovak National Uprising) often known as the UFO Bridge. Built between 1967 and 1972 it has The UFO Tower with restaurant and bar with viewing platform at 84.6 metres high giving amazing views looking over the river to the old town on a clear day. We flew to Vienna and got a cross border transfer to cover the 40 miles or so journey, taking about 45 minutes. Bratislava may not be on many peoples bucket lists, but it was a lovely experience in a less crowded city compared to the hussle, bustle of places like Vienna and Cologne.
