Targeting Galjoen(National Fish) in the Garden Route.

On Saturday, 15 March 2025, my brothers and I set off into a hunt for Galjoen, South Africa's national fish. Every year in March our season opens so we are allowed to target this species. On this day, I went out and found washed up redbait on the shore after some rough winds and currents. This is one of the best baits to be used fishing for Galjoen. Traces for the day was Trident 2/0 inline circle hooks with a 30cm 25kg Mono hook line and a small float. This is the preferred trace for Galjoen. It turned out to be a rough day, only capable of landing one Gallie, but it was a good one, measuring in at 40cm to the fork. This was a good day for me as it marked new specie number 7 for the season and I was extremely happy with the fact. It also shows to prove hard work and dedication always pays off in all aspects of life. Nonetheless, it was a difficult day, but this also proves to the viewers that even when doing all the right things, sometimes it just doesn't turn out into your favor. Thus, I always say for me catching a fish on an adventure is a by product, the whole experience has its own uniqueness and always proves a lesson of its own. It's about camaraderie, fresh air, the realness of nature, and most important for me the HOPE, as without hope in this world we have nothing. Rod and real used on the day was Okuma Rock Away 3-6oz, love the rod tip, as I am able to cast accurate and get some distance without having to do to much effort. Truly makes casting effortless.
