Darwin's Abominable Mystery - A talk for the Reading Geological Society - Richard Buggs

A presentation given to the Geological Society of the town of Reading, UK, on the topic of Darwin's Abominable Mystery, the origin of flowering plants. I look at the mystery through the eyes of Thomas Harris, Professor of Botany at Reading University from 1934-1968. Harris played a key role in the unsuccessful quest to find pre-Cretaceous flowering plant fossils in the first half of the twentieth century. I look back from Harris to Darwin, and then forward from Harris to the present day, tracing 150 years of effort to solve the mystery.
