Hello and welcome to the channel. Today we are exploring Gwynfryn mansion situated in north wales. The mansion is positioned beautifully on the Lleyn Peninsula overlooking Snowdonia and Cardigan Bay. The tower, as much of the house, is built with brick but with a stone outer and was built by Hugh John Ellis Nanney and completed in 1876 (with a date stone on the tower). It remained a family home until 1928 (a mere 52 years) and then became a retirement home for the clergy, a hospital and then a hotel (a mixed, yet not uncommon, history). It burnt down during the 1980’s and has remained that way since (except for a brief period when a squatter took it upon himself to begin a restoration, a seemingly ambitious but futile attempt before eviction). It was gutted by a fire in 1982 and has been sitting empty since - until it went on the market in 2018 for just £500,000. He hopes to develop the mansion into 22 one or two-bedroom flats and build a 25-unit rear extension. A planning statement said: "This is a rare opportunity to bring an historic building back to its former splendour, this will require a large investment and the skills of experienced craftspersons to enable this to happen. The design intent is to have the building fully restored keeping most of the external character and to provide apartments in the main building and either cottages in the existing side/rear building or alternatively studio apartments. "To the rear we would like to alter an existing 1950/60s extension to increase the accommodation and possibly add facilities for the residents. Part of the development it is proposed to have as residential serviced accommodation to allow for short stay guests - this would also increase the viability of the development and allow more people to share this idyllic location. #explore #ruins #abandonedmansion #abandonedhouse #abandonedplaces #abandonedbuilding #urbex #urbanexploration #exploretheunknown #decay #derelictbuildings #derelict #derelictplaces
