7 April 2023. Guangzhou. After days of rain—finally, sunshine. Starting from Yijing Road, taking a bus to Guangzhou South Railway Station. Choosing bus over metro on purpose. Just to see the scenery. ——— Where do we begin to understand a city? Anywhere, really. Trees by the road. People on bikes. Sounds you hear. Temperature and humidity on your skin. Through the bus window: motorcycles below. Sometimes the bus pulls ahead. Sometimes they do. A silent race—no winners, just各自 heading各自 ways. ——— Yijing Road to Shangchong—everyday Haizhu District. The bus lurches through residential blocks, past schools, past markets. People waiting at stops. Someone just back from grocery shopping. Someone smoking, staring into space. Past Shangchong, onto Luoxi Bridge. Below: the Pearl River. Ahead: Panyu. Someone online once said: “Every time I cross Luoxi Bridge by bus, I look out. The river wide, boats passing—it opens something inside.” ——— Approaching Guangzhou South Station. Shipi Junction, Wanbao Industrial Base, Mengyong—place names flash by . Route 301A, from downtown all the way south to this massive transport hub . Another traveler's words: “On Guangzhou buses,透过 the window, you see the city's烟火气.
