Locums, says Dr. Colin Zhu, allows him to control the flow of patients he sees and to spend more time with each. Link to blog post: Read more about Dr. Zhu on CompHealth’s blog, How locums lets Dr. Zhu take a whole-person approach to his practice, https://comphealth.com/resources/locu.... Transcript: I work locum tenens because I enjoy the work that I do. I give quality service to the patients that I do because locum tenens is a great vehicle and handles all the other stresses that I don’t need to necessarily need to be put on if I was employed somewhere or have to fulfill someone else’s agenda. I get to dictate my own lifestyle, and I also dictate myself as a professional and also as a physician. Locums is great where I can dictate how many patients I can see. I can dictate the quality and patient flow. Whereas if I was employed at a hospital system or group practice, I would have a little bit more restriction. The actual result of this is that I can impart more counseling time. I can educate my patients more, and patients really, really enjoy this because I can spend more time with them. With locums, that allows me more freedom to explain more about their disease process, and you get things like, “Doctor, you’re the first one that actually explained my diagnosis to me.” To them, it’s more fulfilling. It’s more fulfilling to me because I’m teaching them what is going on with their body and health, and with education, it empowers them to do things more differently as opposed to just taking a pill.
