This beautiful old plantation house located in a very remote part of Alabama was built by a man who originally hailed from South Carolina. The history I could find dates the house too around 1855 making it antebellum. The wealthy farmer and his wife had eight children in the home, three of which died in the American civil war. The couple both passed away in the house a year apart, his wife passed in 1873 and he passed in 1874. Then the house was sold to the Drew family who then proceeded to sell it in the early 1900’s to another couple who raised a large family of seven children in the home. The daughter Maybelle and her husband inherited the house in 1954 and lived there until passing away. Most recently the home and land were supposedly sold to a timber company with the provision that the house be restored and saved. Hopefully that comes to fruition someday. This was one of the most beautiful unique houses I’ve ever documented and I truly hope it can be saved. So many unique and incredible features like the large 4 columned front porch and the stunning curved staircase you are greeted by entering the large double front doors. Hand carved wooden fireplace mantles adorn nearly every room and a back auxiliary servant staircase for the help in the back of the home. One of the most incredible old homes I’ve ever seen. Thank you very much for watching.
