#ChemQuest #Teaching #Solutions This lecture includes a detailed discussion about colligative properties of solutions that depends upon the no of solute and solvent particles. Colligative properties are 1) Lowering of vapour pressure 2) Elevation of Boling point 3) Depression of Freezing point 4) Osmotic Pressure. Lecture was explained by taking the examples of o.1 and 1 molal solution of Urea, Glucose and Sucrose. It was discussed that these solutions produce impact on colligative property despite their different mass, due to the same number of particles in each solution. It was further emphasized that these properties do not depend upon size of the particles or their structure. Molal boiling point Constant Kb (Ebullioscopic Constant) and molal freezing point constant Kf (Cryoscopic Constant) are very well explained. Conditions for the colligative properties are described. 1) Solution should be dilute. 2) Solute should be non volatile and non electrolyte.
