Malacca (Melaka) World Heritage City is a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized in 2008 for its rich history, cultural diversity, and well-preserved colonial architecture. Along with George Town in Penang, Malacca represents a unique blend of Malay, Chinese, Indian, Portuguese, Dutch, and British influences, making it one of the most historically significant cities in Southeast Asia. Christ Church Malacca is one of the most iconic landmarks in Malacca, Malaysia. Located in Dutch Square (Red Square), this historic church is famous for its distinctive red exterior, Dutch colonial architecture, and deep historical significance. St. Paul’s Hill and Church is one of Malacca’s most historic landmarks, offering stunning panoramic views and a deep connection to the city’s colonial past. ✅ Originally built in 1521 by a Portuguese nobleman as a small chapel called "Nossa Senhora da Annunciada" (Our Lady of the Annunciation). ✅ Expanded by the Portuguese and renamed St. Paul’s Church in 1556, making it the oldest church in Southeast Asia. ✅ Taken over by the Dutch in 1641, who used it as a Protestant place of worship before building Christ Church Malacca in Dutch Square. ✅ British Rule (1800s): The British repurposed the church as a storage facility for gunpowder, leading to its current ruined state. Jonker Street (Jalan Hang Jebat) is the heart of Malacca’s Chinatown and one of the city's most famous attractions. Known for its vibrant night market, antique shops, and delicious street food, it’s a must-visit for anyone exploring Malacca.
