With Chief Thomas Collins taking the helm of the New Haven Fire Department in 1953, a new film was produced detailing the operations of the New Haven Fire Department in a similar fashion to the 1943 film "Safeguarding New Haven." Unfortunately the audio strip was either lost from the original 8mm film reel or never existed. The areas of the department covered in the film are: Board of Fire Commissioners - Policy Making Body Administrative Offices Fire Marshal's Office - Bureau of Fire Prevention and Investigation Communications - Fire Alarm Bureau Apparatus Maintenance Division Responding to an Alarm of Fire Training Division Annual Field Day After the 19:29 mark, the film shows clips of various training demonstrations from department training and from Annual Field Days starting with 1952's. The 1954 Annual Field Day plays next at the 25:33 mark, followed by a 1946 demonstration on fighting garage fires with fog nozzles and breathing air packs at 36:44. A live fire evolution at the Technical Training Grounds comes after at 37:18 and concludes at 39:18 for the start of the 1954 live burn of the Emergency Housing Project in Waterside Park next to the training grounds. Film preserved by the New Haven Firemen's Benevolent Assocation from the New Haven Fire Academy Archives
