Filmed on January 20th, 2023 at the National Capital Trolley Museum in Colesville, Maryland. The National Capital Trolley Museum houses a collection of colorful, unique, and historical trolleys ranging not only from the DC Capital area, but from around the US, and internationally. However, with the winter weather finally delivering snow to the east coast, one of the pieces from the museums collection is put to work for the first time ever, Capital Traction Company 09, the snow sweeper. Built by the McGuire Manufacturing Company in 1899 originally for the Washington Traction & Electric Company before it went into foreclosure in 1901, the sweeper was transferred over to the Washington Railway & Electric Company a year later in 1902. And a while later, the Capital Traction and WR&RCo merged in 1933, this sweeper was renamed and re-lettered to Capital Traction Company 09, or for short, CTCo 09. Saved by the Rockhill Trolley Museum in 1962 and restored in 1999, it was purchased by the National Capital Trolley Museum in 2012. This is the first time CTCo 09 has operated in snow in over two decades. And in this video you'll see CTCo 09 at work clearing off snow around the yard and main loop. Meanwhile, museum volunteers with scrappers and shovels clear off the snow and ice from the switches so that the trolley tours can operate.
