Sicily, Messina, Strait of Messina to Reggio Calabria Italy Ferry

We departed beautiful Taormina, Sicily and took a ferry across the Strait of Messina to land on the toe of the Italian boot in Calabria Italy. Calabria, in southwest Italy, occupies the toe of the country's boot shaped peninsula. It's a sun baked region of rugged mountains, old fashioned villages and dramatic coastline, with beautiful beaches. It is bordered on the west by the Tyrrhenian Sea and on the east by the Ionian Sea. We stayed a couple of nights in Sorrento which has views of Naples, Vesuvius and the Isle of Capri, which we also visited. The Amalfi Drive, connecting Sorrento and Amalfi is a narrow road that threads along the high cliffs of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Sorrento's sea cliffs and luxury hotels are breath taking.
