Topography and climate: Rugged, hilly terrain rises dramatically from the sea, peaking at 735 meters on Komodo Island. A distinct wet and dry season creates a landscape that shifts from green and lush to a parched, brown savanna dotted with lontar palms. The iconic viewpoint from Padar Island offers a famous vista of three distinct crescent-shaped beaches—pink, black, and white—separated by rolling hills. Vegetation: While arid savanna dominates, the islands also contain pockets of tropical deciduous forests, cloud forests at higher elevations, and coastal mangrove swamps. Wildlife: The park's most famous inhabitant is the Komodo dragon, the world's largest lizard, which can be observed during guided treks on Komodo and Rinca islands.
