Hi, John with etrailer. Today, we have a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu, and we're gonna be taking a look at and installing the CURT T-Connector powered converter four-way flat trailer wiring harness. Now, this is a four-way flat. This is the most common type of connector for light-duty trailers and trailers without brakes. And one of the things I like about this is that it's minimally invasive into your car. It just simply comes out over the trunk seal when you wanna use it. And when you're done with it, just throw it in your trunk. Now, this is a powered converter unit. This actually has a power wire that runs up to your battery. So if you have a trailer with a lot of lights on it or other amp draws, it has a 7 1/2 amp draw maximum on it. This will not interfere with your vehicle. This mimics what your vehicle signals are, left, right, brakes, and running lights. I think the thing I like most about this kit is that you don't have to cut any wires. It already has connectors that connect directly with the vehicle's OEM connectors. And you have one connection over here, and it runs through and connects up over here as well. Now, this system is also compatible with five, six, and seven-pole adapters that we have available here at etrailer. Now, overall, this system installed fairly quickly and easily. I think the hardest thing was to run the power line from the battery under the car and back to the trunk here, but it kinda went without a hitch. This is something you can absolutely do in your driveway with minimal tools. If you wanna see how I did it, keep watching. Okay, so the first step to install this harness and one thing that we need to note, this is a powered converter, which means we're gonna have to run a power line from the battery in the front of the car to this converter in the back of the car. So we wanna open the trunk. All the components are gonna be placed back here in the trunk. We're gonna lift up where the spare tire is. We've already removed the spare tire and all the parts. And we have a few choices where we wanna come up with the power wire from underneath the car. These are plastic grommets already in place. We could drill right through, and seal it up with some RTV, and we can have our power for this now. Now, the battery on our Malibu is actually gonna be on the driver side right here. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna be routing this wire from the front along the driver side. So there isn't a whole lot of places under here to run this. So we went up on the left-hand fender well up to the battery. We're not connected up there, but we just ran it up there and we'll come back to it later. So we came down, and we followed a path towards the center of the car. We have these metal loom clamps here that are holding the wire to the secured bolts down here. Ran it up and around over the exhaust, to the backside back here on the inside of the metal heat shield from the muffler, and went up through our grommet in the trunk pan. So this is a view from the inside of the trunk and the grommet that we chose from underneath the car that you saw earlier. This was a 7/32 drill bit that I used to drill into the plastic grommet. We ran the wire up through. Once we're done hooking everything up, we'll come back and we'll silicone this so it doesn't leak. So we'll get onto the installation. We're gonna have to remove a few things. Obviously, we took this big panel out here. The next step, we're gonna remove this scuff panel. These can be kinda tough, but for the Malibu right here, we're gonna grab this. We're kinda gonna pull out and up at the same time. And you have these hooks here. There are alignment tabs on here. (panel clunking) You have to get this insert up and over this hook here. (panel popping) (panel popping) It'll be up and out. These are the tabs that you see here, and they come in right here. Sounded terrible, everything's fine. After the scuff panel is removed, we're gonna come and we'll find two tabs that are holding our carpet felt back. We're gonna use our trim panel removal tool. We have them available here at etrailer. And just slip underneath (tab pops) and pull out. There's one. (panel pops) Two, and go ahead and repeat that on the passenger side as well. Once we have the fasteners out, you can take the felt and we're gonna peel this back. (felt rustling) And t
