May 2025 Camped: San Marcos River Retreat (Scout Camp) Campsite: 2 (2 and 3 are group sites and have access to water) Kayakers: Lily, Ryan, Kristina, Lina and (Dennis and Jessica up until Rio Vista and then Jane took over) Day 1 paddle: Launched: San Marcos Lions Club Tube Rental Take out: Scout Camp Distance: aprox. 6 miles Day 2 tubing: Launched: San Marcos Lions Club Tube Rental Take out: Rio Vista Takes about an hour, if you pay for the shuttle you can do it as many times as you want This was such a fun trip that will forever be one of my favorite memories. This was also Lily's first paddle trip of long distance and she did so great! She learned to read the river and learned to paddle like a pro this trip! Her favorite thing was of course Rio Vista. I love this brave, fierce and wild child of mine and love paddling with her! Can't wait for our next river adventure together! Note: If you plan to go, I highly recommend you go during the weekday. We paddled on Friday and hardly saw anyone on the water/Rio Vista but on Saturday we hardly saw water with how many tubers there were! So plan accordingly! In the beginning of the video, you will see Texas wild rice, which is the only place that it grows, and it is gorgeous! This is a spring fed river too so waters will stay same temp and same level year round. If you are a beginner, this is a great entry level paddle. In an effort to preserve the ecosystem San Marcos river is now a can free zone and is enforced. If you are staying at Scout Camp, be aware of the ants, that are everywhere, they do bite and they hurt. There are also harmless sugar ants and 100s were found in our tent one evening, I was too tired to care so we slept with the little guys.
