Peter Roach is Emeritus Professor of Phonetics at Reading University. He is also the author of 'English Phonetics and Phonology', the fourth edition of which was published by Cambridge University Press in March 2009. Here, Peter Roach looks at learning to produce rhythm in English and the effects of manipulating rhythm. This lecture was recorded at the 11th Seminar on English Phonetics, hosted by the Phonetics Group Chile at UMCE, Santiago, in 2006.
