Gores are essential to give you plenty of room to move around easily in your kit. This video will take you step by step through my method for inserting the side gores. The first step is getting your pieced gores sewn together. Once that is done we will focus on getting the top few inches of the gore in place, and getting the meeting point of all these parts secured and felled down before we proceed with the lengths. We will cover how to insert gores at the waist, and up under the gussets, as well as how to deal with any excess length in your gores. You can either let the excess overhang at the end for a quick and simple solution, or, if you need as much width at the hem as possible, you can use the excess length at the top and remove it there, preserving the widest possible hem. We will insert waist height gores on the woollen dress and take off the excess here at the top, and then we will insert under-gusset gores in the linen garment and leave any excess at the bottom so you can see both methods. Once that is done, the process is the same whatever method you are using, and whichever garment you are making! This video is part of my How to make a simple Viking Age Tunic or Dress series, you can find the introduction video here • INTRODUCTION- Make a SIMPLE Viking Age TUN... so you know what to expect and where to find which bits of information!
