Simhamukka part 1 Foremost Protector Lion-Faced Dakini 圣尊莲生活佛首传狮面空行母法 真佛宗第一护法19980207

First, homage to Venerable Monk Liao Ming, H. H. [the 16th] Karmapa, Master Thubten Dargye, and Master Sakya Zhengkong (Dezhung Rinpoche). We pray to the lineage gurus to radiate light and bless us. May all be well and auspicious. Today is the dharma transmission of Guru Padmasambhava’s Simhamukha (Lion-Faced Dakini). Simhamukha once vowed to be the foremost protector of the True Buddha School. This “first and foremost” is hard to come by, as it is very rare and difficult to be first and foremost. Why is Simhamukha the foremost protector? The Second Buddha of Oddiyana is Guru Padmasambhava. Simhamukha was once his guru. She is also his yidam and his protector. Everyone will wonder why this is the case. This is because Simhamukha once transmitted the most powerful method of subjugation to Guru Rinpoche. As his guru, she transmits to Guru Rinpoche the most powerful subjugation methods and all the fierce subjugation mantras. Why is she also his yidam? We understand this through transformation. The true yidam of Guru Rinpoche is Amitabha Buddha of Sukhavati. Their seed syllable is the same—Hrih. Amitabha Buddha transforms into Guru Padmasambhava, who manifested Simhamukha. So Guru Rinpoche is the yidam of Simhamukha, and the yidam of Simhamukha is Guru Rinpoche—it is mutual. Simhamukha herself is also a protector. We know that dakinis are dharma protectors. Speaking of protectors, in Tantrayana there are many. Among the protectors, mountain gods and guardian deities are the mildest. Celestial protectors, such as the twenty-eight constellations, are rather rough and forceful. True Buddha School Celestial Canopy includes their names. They are more forceful and powerful. The wisdom (vidyaraja) and vajra (heruka) protectors are the ones possessing the greatest authority. Wisdom Protectors have the greatest power and authoritative force. Then there are those from the Mara (demon) realm who support the Buddha, Buddhism, and practitioners. They are capable of anything. Dakinis are of course dharma protectors. What is the dakini characteristic? Extreme fierceness. In Tibetan Tantric Buddhism, they are portrayed with very fierce faces. Dakinis are fierce and formidable protectors. Simhamukha is likewise an extremely fierce and formidable protector. You may find it strange, as females are generally gentle. But I notice that the female dharma-protector dakinis in the celestial realm are more renowned than the male counterparts—the dakas. Most of the famous ones are dakinis. Tantrayana reveres dakini protectors as being formidable. Why are these female dakinis so fierce? I once reflected on this. In the human world, we can also see some signs. Think about the common saying: “A toad wants to eat swan meat.” But according to zoologists, the toad is a very gentle animal that does not harm others, whereas the swan is quite fierce. Often, before the toad can eat the swan, the swan turns around and eats the toad instead, and the toad dies. So the saying implies an [unrealistic] dream. The research shows that swan is very fierce even when it appears gentle and kind, like a loving mother. But when it becomes aggressive, it stops at nothing. The nature of the swan is fierce, while the toad is gentle by nature. The fundamental nature of Simhamukha is that of a dakini. That is why she is called the foremost protector. A dakini inherently possesses a very fierce quality. Looking at many female deities in India and the mother deities in Tantrayana, they all manifest in fierce forms. From this, you can understand the Lion-Faced Dakini practice. 首先我们先顶礼了鸣和尚，顶礼大宝法王，顶礼吐登达尔吉上师，顶礼萨迦证空上佛。祈请祖师放光加倍，一切吉祥如意。 今天我们是传授莲花生大士狮面空行母法。狮面空行母曾誓愿为我们真佛宗的第一护法。这个“第一”两个字，是得来不易的，因为第一是很难得的。 为什么狮面空行母是第一护法？乌金第二佛就是莲花生大士。狮面空行母曾经是莲花生大士的上师，而且是莲花生大士的本尊，又是莲花生大士的护法。大家都会觉得很奇怪为什么是这样子。 因为狮面空行母曾经把最猛烈的降伏法教给莲花生大士。作为他的上师，她传授给莲花生大士最猛烈的降伏法以及所有猛烈的咒语。 为什么又是本尊？我们晓得这个变化。莲花生大士真正的本尊是西方极乐世界的阿弥陀佛，他们同一个种子字，都是「咄唎」。由阿弥陀佛变化为莲花生大士，而狮面空行母本身又是由莲花生大士变化出来的。 所以可以讲他是她的本尊。莲花生大士是狮面空行母的本尊，狮面空行母的本尊也是莲花生大士，彼此互有联系。 狮面空行母本身也是护法。我们晓得空行母都是护法。谈到护法，密教里面有很多的护法。据我所知道，护法当中最温和的应该是山神跟守方神。 也有天星的护法，像二十八星宿，他们比较粗暴。真佛宗的漫天华盖里面有二十八星宿的名号。这一类护法比较粗暴、很有力量。 另外还有明王、金刚明王护法。他们具有最大的权威。明王护法具有最大力量与权威。 还有一种是属于魔界来转而护持佛、佛教、行者。这些护法是无所不为。 其中空行母当然都是护法。空行母的特性是很凶狠。你看藏密里画的空行母面孔都是很凶恶的。明明是空行母，但画出来的都是很凶恶。 空行母是凶恶、凶狠的护法。狮面空行母也是非常凶恶、非常凶狠的护法。 这里面大家也会觉得很奇怪，因为大部分来讲女性都是比较温和的，而空行母属于女性。但事实上，经过多年的观察，在天上界女性的空行母护法反而非常出名，而男性的空行勇夫反而没有那么出名。 密教对空行母护法非常尊崇，因为她们本身很凶狠。为什么这些母系的空行母会那么凶狠？ 我曾经这样子想过。在人间我们也可以看出一点征兆。大家常常讲一句俗话：癞蛤蟆想吃天鹅肉。但根据动物学家的研究，癞蛤蟆是一种很温和的动物，不会伤害人；而天鹅却是很凶狠的。往往癞蛤蟆还没有吃到天鹅，反而已经被天鹅转头吃掉了，癞蛤蟆就死了。 所以不应该说是癞蛤蟆想吃天鹅肉。当然，这句话本来就代表一种梦想。经过动物学家的研究，所谓的天鹅，其实本性是最凶狠的。表面上看起来它很温和、很慈祥，像慈母一样；但事实上它凶起来的时候是不顾一切的。天鹅的本性是凶狠的，癞蛤蟆的本性反而是温和的。 由此可以讲，狮面空行母的本性是空行母，所以她称为第一护法不是没有原因的。她之所以成为第一护法，当然有其道理存在。事实上，空行母本身就具有一种很凶狠的特性。你看印度的女性神祇，以及密教里面的母系诸神，都是以凶狠的形象出现的。 从这里就可以了解狮面空行母法。狮面空行母法你们可以简称为狮母法。狮母法是非常厉害的。从这里就可以看出温和与凶狠的差别。 #livingbuddhaliansheng #truebuddhaschool #simhamukka #蓮生活佛 #真佛宗
