I left Kuala Lumpur in the morning, landed in Chengdu, and immediately got lost in the subway because Google Maps was useless. After struggling to find my hotel, I gave up and picked a random Chinese hotel—turns out, it was 7 stars and the service was unreal. As the sun set, I made my way to Chengdu Central Mosque for iftar, where I met a kind Muslim couple from Xinjiang who welcomed me into their world, sharing their culture and food. Later, I even ran into Indonesians in China, making the experience even more special. From getting lost to finding unexpected connections, this is what Ramadan in China looks like.
