The first six-cylinder Ferrari (excluding those under the entry-level ‘Dino’ brand), the 296 GTB is a potent two-seat plug-in hybrid supercar with a rear mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. Power comes from a 654 hp 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6, supported by a 165 hp electric motor slotted in between the engine and eight speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, for a maximum output of 819 hp, and a power-to-weight ratio of 560 hp per tonne. It accelerates to 62 mph in 2.9 seconds, and the claimed top speed is 205 mph. The 296 can be driven in electric-only mode for up to 16 miles via its 7.45 kWh battery, in order to comply with use in urban low-emission zones. The desirable Assetto Fiorano package reduces the car’s weight through the extensive use of carbon fibre, as well as a Lexan rear window, a polycarbonate engine cover and a complete redesign of the door panels (shedding over 12 kg). The Assetto Fiorano variant generates an additional 10 kg of downforce over the standard 296 GTB via the use of carbon-fibre attachments on the front bumper, and up to 360 kg at high speeds thanks to the LaFerrari-inspired active rear bumper.
