North York Moors Wildfire Aftermath 2025

A devastating fire swept across parts of the North York Moors National Park in August 2025. It consumed large areas of moorland, woodland and wildlife habitats. Some of these areas will take years to recover. Although the fire is out on the surface, the peat underneath is still burning, which still poses a threat with more potential fire outbreaks. Grass seed has already started to reclaim small patches of the scorched land, but significant damage has been done to this once lush landscape. A lot of trees have also been uprooted due to recent storms - making certain areas of the moors quite hazardous for walkers and hikers. The area now resembles something from an apocalypse rather than a place of natural beauty.
