Hey there neighbor, it's Kevin here, etrailer and today we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the tow smart trailer hitch receiver here on our 2025 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Jeep wranglers are synonymous with adventure so there's a couple of ways that you can really start to upgrade that adventure for yourself, and the first way is to add on a trailer hitch receiver so that way you can haul around your bike racks, your cargo carriers full of gear, or even tow a small trailer behind your Jeep. So a tow smart trailer hitch receiver is gonna come with a two inch by two inch receiver tube opening, and that's gonna be the most common for all those accessories out there. Now there are some one and a quarter inch accessories you might want to take on your Jeep, but it's pretty simple, you just need to pick up a separate reducer and that'll drop that size down to that one and a quarter so that way you can easily slot in and use your accessory. Now along with that though, you are gonna need a five a inch hitch pin and clip and that is not going to be included, you will have to purchase that separately. I have one I'll show you in just a little bit, but I wanted to kind of go over a couple other things as well. But keep that in mind though, if you are switching down to that smaller accessory, you may also have to get a half inch hitch pin and clip as well. It's really just gonna kind of depend on what size holes that you use for the reducer and specifically for the shank that's on your accessory. Now switching over to the weight capacities, this is gonna have a 3,500 pound gross towing weight capacity. So that's gonna be the force whenever it's pulling something that's on the ground, so your trailers. Now the tongue weight capacity, which is gonna be the downward force on the inside edge of our receiver tube opening, it's gonna be 350 pounds, and that is your bike racks and your cargo carriers, and then anything that you're loading on that cargo carrier. Now along with that you have this big old spare tire in the way, so you're most likely also going to need some sort of extension for your hitch. Now the extensions do help so that way you can really make that clearance, get away from the tire, pop in your accessory or your ball mount or something like that and be able to use it. But you do have to keep in mind we're now leveraging that weight a lot further out. So if we do that, we're gonna want to take into account that we're gonna be losing about 50% of our overall capacity so that 350 pounds of tongue weight and that 3,500 pounds of gross towing weight capacity are now gonna be reduced by 50%. Now keeping in line with that, let's see exactly how much we need for that hitch extender. So in our case right now, from the center of our hitch pin hole to the edge of that tire, we're looking at right around like 11 and a half inches, maybe 12 inches. So at least a 12 inch hitch extender would be needed in order for you to clear the tire or you'd have to take the spare tire off and maybe just throw it inside if you do have the space for it. Now another thing that's not as important 'cause it's a Jeep here and we're sitting pretty high, but ground clearance is typically one of the big things that we look at with the trailer hitch. So for that you're gonna go from the ground up to the top inside edge of our receiver tube, and we're looking at right around 21 and a half inches. So we got plenty of clearance 'cause at minimum we usually wanna see about 12 inches. If you we inchesre below that 12 inches, that's where you'd wanna start looking into some sort of other adapter to get that a little bit higher up so that way the shank of whatever accessory you have in here doesn't bottom out when you hit a steep incline or decline. And moving on from there, we have our hitch pin here. So like I said, this hitch pin is five eighths, it'll swap swap right through there and then we can pop in our clip. Now this is just a standard one. I highly recommend getting yourself a locking one, and if possible also an anti-rattle so that way you can make sure that nothing's rattle around in here, nothing's jumbling around, which is especially important with your bike racks and your cargo carriers because you don't want to spend all
