About a year ago, I bought my gravel bike – the Canyon Grizl 6 AXS – and honestly, it’s one of the best purchases I’ve made in recent years. Having a gravel bike really opened up my adventures in the Bay Area, letting me go beyond just the paved roads. My goal when I first got the bike was to hit 2,000 miles in one year. I had a small setback due to minor foot injury, so it took me a little longer than I planned… but I finally reached that milestone. To celebrate, I planned a ride starting from the Tennessee Valley trailhead in Marin County. From there, I went through Muir Beach and Muir Woods, climbing all the way up to the Pantoll Campground in Mount Tamalpais State Park, and then descending along the stunning Panoramic Highway. I’ll be honest – I was a bit out of shape, and those climbs were tough. But the views made it worth it. Standing above the Pacific Ocean, looking out toward Muir Beach with the horizon wide open—it’s unforgettable. I even ran into some friendly hikers along the way.
