Toyota 4Runner TrailHunter: Greatness Has a Cost

Let’s test drive and review the 2025 Toyota 4Runner Trailhunter! And thanks to ‪@MagnaInternationalTV‬ for sponsoring this video! The Toyota 4Runner debuted in 1984, and Toyota says it was inspired by the Land Cruiser and a lesser-known model called the Toyota Trekker. The Trekker was a Toyota Hilux truck with a camper shell, and the Land Cruiser was a bare-bones utility vehicle with neither air conditioning nor power steering in 1979. Back then, the Land Cruiser retailed for $6,000. That’s $28,000 accounting for inflation, which is about half the starting price of a new Land Cruiser. Today, the 4Runner is exactly that. This is a 2025 Toyota 4Runner Trailhunter, which is the trailer edition of the 4Runner (and is currently tied for the most expensive 4Runner with the TRD Pro at a starting price of $67,400 USD). The idea behind the Trailhunter is that it’s a turn-key overland and camping SUV (that you can add mods to or make an overlanding build out of). It has 33-inch tires, steel underbody protection, frame-mounted rock rails, and special branded off-road rig suspension from Old Man Emu. This 4Runner Trailhunter has a turbocharged 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder engine that, along with Toyota’s i-FORCE MAX hybrid system, makes 323 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. That turbo power goes through an 8-speed automatic transmission to all of the Trailhunter’s four wheels, and it has a towing capacity of 5,800 pounds.  In this video, we’ll talk about tons of things: the snorkel, on-road sound, interior, stabilizer bar disconnect system, locking differential, crawl control, infotainment screen and technology, and so much more.
