Welcome to another episode of Meet the Innovators 🚀 In this interview, we meet Peter Wellmann, Professor of Materials Science at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg and leader of Work Package 2 in the RePowerSiC project. Prof. Wellmann explains how his team is responsible for material growth and characterization, developing the PIN layer structures that form the foundation of the project’s energy converters. Using an advanced Close Spaced Sublimation (CSVT) growth process and a newly developed growth machine, the team is enabling high-quality silicon carbide layers tailored for space applications. He highlights the key advantage of silicon carbide: its strong resistance to radiation, making it particularly suitable for space environments compared to silicon or gallium arsenide. Looking ahead, he shares his vision of expanding silicon carbide beyond power electronics into photonics — opening new possibilities for future space energy technologies. 👉 Subscribe and hit the bell 🔔 to follow more conversations with the innovators behind RePowerSiC! #RePowerSiC #SpaceInnovation #EnergyTransfer #SpaceExploration #FutureOfEnergy
