What Is Neapolitan 6th Chord?|Grade 8 Music Theory (ABRSM/Trinity) This video is suitable for students who are preparing for upcoming higher grades of music theory exam. Today's topic is about Neapolitan 6th chord, this is one of the chromatic chords that contain at least one foreign note. Most of the chromatic chords are the result of the alteration of one or more notes of a diatonic chords. They are used more in major than in minor keys in general. Neapolitan 6th is the 1st inversion of the major chord whose root is the lowered supertonic and is identified in analysis by bIIb, or N6. It is used in both major and minor keys, but is more effective and most often found in a major context.
